Mailing List Posting Background and Rules:
The Winding Orchard Community Foundation (“WOCF”) operates the neighborhood list. The following usage rules apply with respect to use of this general Mailing List system – failure to follow these rules may result in being removed from the list.
- The mailing list access is limited to residents and owners of property in the Winding Orchard neighborhood, and posting is limited to registered members of the email list.
- The list should only be used to communicate about things related directly to the neighborhood or the residents of WOCF.
- WOCF provides the email list as a free service to residents and homeowners to assist them in the sharing of information relative to a variety of subject matters such as: neighborhood events, safety improvements, lost pets, school community/school events, meetings, crime prevention, welcoming or assisting new neighbors, contractor recommendations, etc.
- WOCF does not screen or otherwise monitor content and accepts no responsibility for the opinions and information posted on the mailing list. Each person is responsible for their own content.
- The email list should not be regarded as a secure system and should never be used for anything that should be confidential in nature.
- Information generated on the list is for the sole use and benefit of the registered users of the list. List participants shall not forward or otherwise distribute messages and/or attachments to those who are not registered on the list unless they have permission of the message originator.
- Members whose computers may be compromised and their mailing address is being used to send spam message to the Mailing List, may have their sending privileges revoked until we are certain their computer has been secured.
The following material is inappropriate and should not be posted to the Mailing List system:
- Obscene, offensive, inflammatory, libelous, derogatory, or any language directed to harm someone or group personally.
- Personal attacks, character statements, or other language or tone that could be considered insulting, obnoxious or otherwise contrary to having a polite and constructive conversation.
Additionally:
- If you have an issue with a neighbor, the list is not the place to air it. Work with your neighbors directly where possible.
- Avoid using one or two word responses, such as “thanks”, or “call me”. If information or responses like this need to be generated, they should be sent directly to the person it is intended, and not the group as a whole. If you have a question that needs clarification to a person posting a response, please do so privately to the person sending the original message.
- Only reply to the entire list if the response is relevant for everyone to read. If it is appropriate for only the original sender, only send that person a personal reply message.
- Copyrighted material shall not be posted without permission by the owner of the material. If you found an article or other resource that you think would benefit the neighborhood, you can describe it and provide a link to the original posting however.
- Do not post political or advocacy related messages unless they are directly related to the neighborhood (e.g., there is a legislative change proposed that would directly impact our neighborhood such as a rezoning where you are encouraging people to get involved).
- The list should not be used to push individual agendas or beliefs or be a forum for complaining about “world issues”.
Generic Business Advertising – please don’t post advertisements for the company you work for. However, the following are permitted:
- Offering items (e.g., household goods, electronic items, furniture, tickets) for sale, give-away or donation, provided the item is not offered as part of your usual or customary business;
- Announcing the availability of incidental services (e.g., babysitting, tutoring, yard help, car washing, snow shoveling – primarily incidental services kids might provide, not what you do as a profession), provided the availability of services are not repeatedly advertised;
- Announcing civic, local, neighborhood and educational events directly related to our neighborhood, community or schools; and
- Local fundraisers or a cause you are personally raising money for or coordinating. Do not post general fundraising solicitations (e.g., “I encourage you should contribute to the American Cancer Society”).
Any violations of the above rules will be taken seriously. The list moderators will serve to enforce these rules. This could result in a warning, suspension of privileges or removal from the email list altogether.
We want to balance open communications with keeping the list a useful tool that other neighbors will want to receive updates from.
WOCF reserves the right to amend, modify or supplement these Mailing List rules at any time and will modify them over time as the needs of the neighborhood change.
